The Time Traveller (for so it will be convenient to speak of him) was expounding a recondite matter to us.

Hi Grant. I had been using a braided wire leader, but we hadn't caught anything in a while so a switched to mono. Maybe 50lb, I don't remember. I hadn't thought to rety the knots but it sounds like a good idea.

Josh - were you using a leader of any kind when the sierra (Spanish Mackerel) broke off? If not, you can prevent that by fashioning a wire leader to tie to your main line. Kingfish, sierra and the like have bunches of sharp teeth that will slice through ordinary mono line. Either find some small guage wire or 80 - 100 test mono to fashion a 18" - 2' leader. Also, it is a very good idea to re-tie your knot every 2 or 3 fish caught.

Just food for thought, my two cents worth.

Enjoying sv-timemachine.net very much.
