The Time Traveller (for so it will be convenient to speak of him) was expounding a recondite matter to us.

Hi,
Just want to let you know how invaluable this list was. I frequently serve as a camp nurse and have been teaching wilderness first aid to children and have them make their own first aid kits (minus the vicodin and other pharmaceuticals). Of course, my emergency kit follows your great guidelines.

Really great to have the kit but even better to be able to use it. Interesting that its cheaper to buy it "loose" as it were, rather than in their own pack.

A lot of this stuff we ordered directly from FieldTex which has a pretty good online store. These are the same people who make the Medical Sea Pak Trans-Ocean Kit which seems to be the standard high end kit. It's interesting that you can buy every item in it directly from their own catalog for a third of the kit price. They are over $700 so there are substantial savings to be had from assembling it yourself. Of course, it also requires a lot of time. The good thing is that we thought about it and actually know what's in there. This makes me feel more confident than if we had simply bought it and checked "first aid kit" off the list.

Yeah, looks like a lot of stuff when you write it all down. Not counting the scripts, all that (and white bins) was a bit under $200. Much of the randomness (odd sized gauze rolls, OTC drugs, suture kit) we had already lying about.
